Soluna's 397-acre AI campus buy is a wind-power play

The point of the Briscoe County purchase is control of the power supply.

Soluna Holdings closed on 397 acres in Briscoe County, Texas, for Project Dorothy 3, its planned renewable-first AI computing campus with potential capacity up to 300 MW, as first reported by Connect CRE. The parcel sits between Amarillo and Lubbock, directly across from the substation of the 150 MW Briscoe Wind Farm Soluna acquired in April, adjacent to Projects Dorothy 1 and 2 and the wind farm itself—putting Dorothy 3 in line for direct behind-the-meter power from generation Soluna owns outright.

The 397 acres exceed the 300 acres the company originally earmarked for the campus, leaving room to add data halls if further generation or storage capacity becomes available at the site. Measured against Soluna's pipeline of roughly 6.3 GW of development across multiple sites and about 192 MW of energized capacity today, the deal is small. What Soluna is buying, though, is control over its power supply, and that control only exists when the wind farm feeding the meter sits on its own balance sheet.

That ownership is the dividing line PWD has argued will define this data center cycle: sponsors who can source power underwrite their campuses like utilities, while those who cannot are left to bid for whatever grid capacity remains. The Briscoe County dirt is not the rare asset; the substation across the road is. Watch energized capacity next—every campus Soluna turns on is a test of whether owned wind can carry the load.
