High Street Residential and its joint venture partner Barings have broken ground on a 501-unit, two-building apartment development in Redwood City, within the ELCO Yards mixed-use district, Connect CRE reported.

The building at 1555 El Camino Real will hold 252 units and 5,277 square feet of ground-floor retail; the second, at 113 Beech St., will hold 249 units. Both buildings will reserve a portion of their units as affordable housing, though the report did not give the share, and both are scheduled to deliver in 2029.

Adam Voelker, market leader of Trammell Crow Company's Northern California office, said the Redwood City market "continues to grow as a dynamic jobs center, and the community offers excellent amenities," according to Connect CRE. High Street Residential is TCC's residential subsidiary.

Connect CRE separately reported a week earlier that High Street had started 435 apartments in Dallas with Acram Group and Parse Capital preferred equity on a former office site.
